Itinerary

Day 1Mkomazi National Park

7:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Depart from your accommodation in Arusha and drive to Mkomazi National Park.

9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Embark on a morning game drive in Mkomazi National Park. Explore the park’s diverse landscapes, including open savannahs, acacia woodlands, and rugged hills. Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the endangered African wild dog.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site within the park. Take in the stunning views and listen to the sounds of the African bush.

1:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Continue your game drive in Mkomazi National Park, focusing on areas where you haven’t explored yet. Visit the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary, dedicated to the conservation of the critically endangered black rhinoceros. Marvel at the diverse birdlife and keep watch for other wildlife species.

4:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Exit Mkomazi National Park and head towards your accommodation near Lake Chala, where you can relax and unwind after a day of safari adventures.

Day 2Lake Chala

7:30 AM: Have breakfast at your accommodation.

8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Spend the morning exploring Lake Chala. Take a guided hike down to the crater lake, which straddles the border between Tanzania and Kenya. Enjoy swimming or kayaking in the crystal-clear waters and marvel at the stunning scenery surrounding the lake.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant overlooking Lake Chala.

1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Relax and unwind at Lake Chala, or take optional activities such as birdwatching, fishing, or exploring nearby caves and waterfalls.

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Depart from Lake Chala and head towards your accommodation in the Usambara Mountains, where you can enjoy dinner and rest for the night.

Day 3Usambara Mountains - Lushoto

7:00 AM: Have breakfast at your accommodation.

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Explore the lush forests and picturesque villages of the Usambara Mountains. Take a guided hike to viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys and peaks. Learn about the local flora and fauna from your knowledgeable guide and immerse yourself in the rich culture and traditions of the local communities.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Lushoto town.

1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Visit a nearby village or cultural center to learn more about the history, customs, and way of life of the Usambara people. Engage in hands-on activities such as traditional dance performances, handicraft demonstrations, or cooking classes.

4:00 PM: Return to your accommodation in the Usambara Mountains, where you can relax and enjoy dinner.

Day 4Usambara Mountains - Amani Nature Reserve

7:30 AM: Have breakfast at your accommodation.

8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Explore the Amani Nature Reserve, a pristine rainforest teeming with biodiversity. Take a guided nature walk along scenic trails, where you can spot a variety of bird species, butterflies, and endemic plants. Visit the Amani Butterfly Project and learn about efforts to conserve the region’s natural heritage.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Enjoy a packed lunch provided by your accommodation, served at a scenic spot within the Amani Nature Reserve.

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Continue your exploration of the Amani Nature Reserve, focusing on areas of particular interest such as waterfalls, viewpoints, or wildlife observation hides.

3:00 PM: Depart from the Usambara Mountains and begin your journey back to Arusha.

9:00 PM: Arrive back at your accommodation in Arusha, end of tour.
