Just a stone’s throw away from Arusha lies a gem sharing its name – Arusha National Park. This 137 km² park encompasses the majestic Mount Meru, which stands tall at 4566 m making it the second-highest peak after Mount Kilimanjaro. Hike through the lush forests surrounding Mount Meru, and for an adrenaline rush, conquer the challenging summit of Mount Meru itself.
Arusha National Park boasts a wildlife ensemble – giraffes, hippos, buffalo, zebra, and baboons. Take a boat safari on Momella Lakes, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, or experience a guided walking safari. A walking safari gives you a chance to be in the midst of wildlife, like buffalos, giraffes or the playful Colobus monkeys swinging in the trees, adding a special touch to your Tanzanian adventure.
Arusha National Park is perfect for day trips, and if you love camping, you can enjoy exciting nights at the foot of Mount Meru. It’s a great way to be surrounded by nature and make the most of your time in this beautiful park.
We start the day early to catch the animals during their most active time. Have a quick breakfast at your accommodation or bring a packed breakfast to enjoy in the park.
You will begin your wildlife safari adventure by exploring the Momella Lakes region. This area is known for its diverse birdlife, including flamingos, herons, and kingfishers. Buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and other herbivores can also be found grazing near the lakeshores.
The drive towards the Ngurdoto Crater begins. As we drive through the lush forests and open grasslands, keep watch for elephants, bushbucks, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Option to take a short hike around the rim of the crater for panoramic views and more wildlife sightings.
Enjoy a packed lunch at one of the picnic sites within the park. Take this time to relax, soak in the natural surroundings, and maybe even spot some monkeys or antelopes nearby.
Explore the rugged landscapes and dense forests of the park’s eastern side. This area is home to a variety of wildlife, including leopards, hyenas, and warthogs. We will take you on a guided walking safari along the designated trails to maximize your chances of spotting these elusive creatures.
As the day draws to a close, we will head back towards the park entrance, keeping an eye out for any last-minute wildlife sightings along the way.
Arrive back at your accommodation, end of tour.
